Holiday Choral Concert

North Bay Opera Theatre Ensemble (NBOTE)
Join us for a Holiday Concert, December 16, 3:00 PM

"Phenomenal!" "Magnificent!". These are two of the comments heard from audience members after NBOTE's most recent concert in Napa, when the choral group performed The Music of Victor Herbert, America's First Great Composer of Musical Theatre.

Nearing its 5-year anniversary, the group continues to grow and develop its unique sound under the guidance of director, Sam Schieber.

Not only a fine pianist and director, Sam is a musicologist with a penchant for finding great music that did not achieve the fame and fortune it deserves. With a wry sense of humor, he often shares stories of the music with the chorus and audiences, to their delight.

Since the group's inception in June 2003, Scheiber and the chorus, numbering around 50 singers, have presented concerts based on various themes including Great Songs from Broadway's Biggest Flops, An Evening of British Musical Theatre, Favorite Opera Choruses, Great Songs from the Movies and, of course, Holiday Music.

Comprised of singers young and not so young, many of them music teachers and directors in their own right, the group generates a unique sound. Rather than focusing on a smoothly blended classical sound, Scheiber encourages the singers to sing out as if each one is a soloist. The result is refreshing, lively and powerful. One concert-goer was heard to say "You do loud really well!"

Sam and the group are pleased and excited to have the opportunity to share their music at the beautiful Jarvis Conservatory on December 16. The program will include compositions representing opera, the movies, television and Broadway, by composers ranging from Donizetti to Meredith Wilson.

Join us for an afternoon of fun, lively, holiday music!
